The Staff Picnic to Thirukazhikundaram and BVM at MARG, Swarnabhoomi was an enjoyable get- together of the staff and teachers of BVM group of Schools. This annual event gives everyone an opportunity to transcend departmental boundaries and enjoy the day, free from the pressures of routine school activities. It is all the more significant now that the BVM family is fast growing.
The climb up the hill was the highlight of the morning. The very idea of climbing over 500 and odd steps was indeed daunting. The midday sun was another factor to reckon with. Every one young and old, the fit and the not-so fit were all taking it up as a challenge. Encouraged by peers – puffing and panting like the steam engines of bygone days the climb was completed. Motivational support also came from seeing other devotees unmindful of their age, climbing every step chanting the Lord’s name. Once at the top, the panoramic view was well worth the effort. The sacred temple tank was a sight to see in as much as the fields and the lakes around. The climb down was a much easier task where one didn’t have to go against the force of gravity. Having ‘victoriously’ descended the cliff with trembling thighs and tired bones, one did have a great sense of achievement.
It was a true test of endurance and taught a valuable lesson in life. One tends to underestimate one’s strengths and functions well below their potential. Each one is capable of delivering much much more than what they think they can. The courage to take on challenges, the will to succeed and a belief in oneself can see one through many a difficult situation.
After a sumptuous lunch at Marg Swarnabhoomi, the teachers relaxed and geared up to entertain others. A game of memory and observation was played which involved finding words in a newspaper. The picnic was an attempt to bond the teachers while entertaining them and giving them a break from the routine.
