Pongal Celebrations

Pongal festival is a regular feature in Bala Vidya Mandir. The children of kindergarten celebrated Pongal on the 13th of January. The children were dressed in colourful traditional clothes. They enjoyed singing pongal songs and also performed a folk dance.

They were excited to see the pongal being made and enjoyed shouting “pongal o pongal”!! Nearly 250 children from the primary participated in the Pongal celebrations comprising various cultural activities. The special feature of this 2010 Pongal Celebration was ‘Villupaatu’ and the Chennai Sangamam’s Cultural Program.

Delicious Pongal was prepared amidst sounds of drum beat and songs reminiscent of the tradition and scenic beauty found in our village. The Pongal Celebration aims to make the young children aware of the importance of our agrarian society.

The children were served sweet pongal. The function was attended by the Principal Mrs. Sasikala Sriram, Vice principal Mr. R. Rajendran, Member of Management Mrs Amrit Ramanaprasad and other staff members.

 

Alumni

On 24th of December 2009 about sixty alumni members, teachers and support staff, congregated at the school campus for a re- union. Students as early as the 1988 batch revisited their alma mater to connect with their juniors, teachers and support staff of the school.
