Math Club
Mathematics is described as “the Queen of the Sciences and the King of the Arts”. The Math club functions as fun based activity for the primary classes basically to eradicate their phobia for the subject in their formative years. It helps the middle school children to enjoy, appreciate and acquire basic knowledge of the subject by organizing competitive group activities, puzzles, visits to museum, and expos conducted by other schools organization. Math club provides a platform for the secondary and senior secondary students to enrich and discover the elegance of the subject, its intrinsic aesthetics and inner beauty by organizing Math Expo and lectures by eminent resource persons.
THE MATH CLUB ACTIVITIES
- The students of class VIII participated in the Sudoku activity on 28.07.09. The children took part with great enthusiasm since they were familiar with this activity. This event helps them to do mathematical calculations faster. Certificates were given for the winners.
- Math club of Bala Vidya Mandir organized an activity for explaining the various shortcut methods in calculations on 08.09.2009 for class X. The students of class X participated and explained the various shortcut methods of calculations to the students of class VIII.
- The students of Class IX participated in the Catch 20 activity on 16.9.09.The children took part in the event with great enthusiasm and the activity widened their knowledge about great Mathematicians . The winners were given certificates

- Students of class XII were taken for a visit to Ramanujan Museum at Royapuram on 3.10.2009 to view a display of the completed and incomplete works of the ‘Man Who Knew Infinity’ (as described by Dr.Ganiegal in his biography of Ramanujan) in his own handwriting.
- History of Mathematics - The students of class VIII participated with great enthusiasm. They presented the ‘History of Mathematics’ through power point presentations, paper presentations and charts on 13.10.09. The students had taken real effort in collecting the information and preparing the charts and slides. The activity was an informative one and the winners of each class were given certificates.
- Vedic Math, a field which helps in making tedious calculations easy was introduced to the students of Class IX on 15.10.09 through a Math club activity .The students prepared power point presentations and explained it on the board illustrating their concept with suitable examples. It was an informative activity and the group which gave the best presentation won.
- ‘The Popular Lecture Series” organized by AMTI, was conducted in the school premises as a math club activity for class XI students on 20.10.2009. Mr. Sivaraman, an erudite speaker and head of the department of Mathematics, in D.G.Vaishnav College, made an interesting presentation on the topic”CONJECTURES AND PROOFS“.
- “Math Quiz” was conducted as a math club activity for class X, on 21.10.2009. The quiz was conducted by Mr. HARISH, alumnus of IIT, Chennai. The participants comprised of students from 4 houses and 3 in each group.
- Math club organized a math quiz for class XI as a part of math club activity on 22.02.2010. The students of class XI formed four teams and participated in the quiz with great enthusiasm.
- Sudoku- A mind game was conducted for students of class VII on 4.01.10 to boost their enthusiasm as well as to do some other concept work using numbers apart from basic operations. Students participated with utmost interest.
MATH CLUB VALEDICTION
Math Club Valediction was held on 03.03.2010 in the school premises. Master Arjith Retna, Assistant Secretary of Math Club, read the Annual Club report which was followed by prize distribution for the various activities conducted by the club throughout the year. Our Principal Mrs.Sashikala Sriram distributed the certificates to the prize winners. |

On 24th of December 2009 about sixty alumni members, teachers and support staff, congregated at the school campus for a re- union. Students as early as the 1988 batch revisited their alma mater to connect with their juniors, teachers and support staff of the school.
