First Aid Awareness


First - Aid Awareness Camp - 4th July 2009



A one-day awareness camp on first –aid was conducted for the teachers of Bala Vidya Mandir and BVM Global on 4th July 2009, Saturday at the Basement auditorium by the St.John’s Ambulance Association headquartered in London, UK. The speaker was Mr.S.S.Ramdass, a veteran speaker and trainer of first-aid.

 
  The programme began with word of welcome and introduction by Mrs. Sashikala Sriram, Principal, Bala Vidya Mandir, Adyar. She expanded on the need for teachers to know the mitty - gritties of first-aid to deal with unforeseen emergencies in a school-setting.
Mr. Ramdass covered all the topics in an intensive and exhaustive manner. . Some of the topics covered include definition and purpose of first aid, artificial respiration, fainting, suffocation, drowning, hanging, electric shock, poisonous gases, physiology and anatomy, diarrhea, dog bite, snake bite, types of splints, types of lifts, burns and scalds, insect stings, poison, wounds, nose bleeding and epilepsy.  
  The session was interactive with teachers participating in gusto. A short film was screened to show the ill effects of an outbreak of fire and its aftermath. The method to treat burns was stressed. The Resource person administered a test at the end of the session which further enhanced the confidence of teachers to tackle any emergency be it at school or outside.

The watchword however for anyone is never ‘PANIC’

when you have to render FIRST AID.
