Cultural Club / Lathangi Club
The word "Culturals" in the present academic society has varied meanings according to different activities that come under the banner of "Inter school Cultural Festival". It is the aim of this club to provide its members with an insight into the more valued skills in competence and excellence so as to help them shine in society. The club functins in various units, some of them being Music, Bhajans and Sanskrit Slokas which help in inspiring the students in the path of devotion, which is the backbone of our Indian Music and Scriptures.
THE CULTURAL (LATHANGI) CLUB ACTIVITIES
- August – Vinayaka Chaturthi Celebration
The three day Vinayaka Chaturthi celebration was organized by the members of the Lathangi Club of Bala Vidya Mandir. The Chief Guest for the first day was Ms.Shankari Subramanian, an ex-student of our school. The day’s performance was opened by Avantika Ramesh accompanied by Aditya Ramesh on the mridangam. She was followed by Pranav Diwakar on the flute, Varsha Jayshankar, Deekshita.G and others.
The Chief Guest for the second day was Mr.Sai Aditya, ex-student of our school. The day started with a recital by Abhinaya Sridhar accompanied by Aditya Ramesh on the mridangam. She was followed by Sanjay.V, Vishruti, Viniti and others. The highlight of the day was the Tala Vrinda.
The Chief Guest for the third day was Mrs.Sujata. the first performance by R.Manasvini accompanied by Aditya Ramesh on the mridangam. She was followed by Hamsini, Harini, Anjana.S, Bhavana.U and others. The day ended with a group performance by the students of class XI, accompanied by Raghunandan on the mridangam.
The three day event was a grand success owing to the efforts of the members and teachers of the Lathangi Club, and the support staff. |

- September – Kuchipudi dance and demonstration
Did you know that only men danced Kuchipudi until a few centuries ago and the classical dance form takes its name after a small village in Andhra Pradesh? Students of Bala Vidya Mandir learnt such interesting facts about the dance and also witnessed a performance on September 17, Wednesday, as part of the Lathangi Club program. Organized by Aanmajothi, the program sought to promote Indian arts and culture among youngsters. Kuchipudi exponent Madhavapeddi Murthy elaborated on the origin of Kuchipudi and its various styles. Along with his disciples, he demonstrated the fundamentals of the dance. The auditorium reverberated with applauses as he performed ‘Tarangam’ a dance on the rim of a brass plate. Finally he encouraged students to raise question to and interacted with the students.
- September – Navarathri celebration
On the Vijayadasami day of Navarathri celebrations conducted by the Ananta Padmanabha Swamy Temple, the students of Bala Vidya Mandir rendered bhajans for 1 hour. The bhajan program was from 7.00 pm to 8.00 pm and took place in the Sri Kanchi Mahaswamy Hall adjacent to the temple. The audience enjoyed the performance. The students of Lathangi club from class 9th, 10th and 11th standards rendered these bhajans. The welcome speech was delivered by Abhinaya Sridhar, the secretary of the Lathangi club and the vote of thanks by Manasvini Ramachandran, the president. Mr.Srinivasa Rao, the Chairman of BVM Groups, Mrs.Sashikala Sriram, the Principal, the Vice-principal (Primary)Mrs.S.Usha were a part of the audience. |

- October – Kathakali lecture demonstration
The Kalakshetra Foundation hosted a Kathakali festival. It was a 3 day programme. On Tuesday, 8th October 2009, the Lathangi club members attended the lecture demonstration on Kathakali by Sadanam P.V.Balakrishna & Kalamandalam Krishnakumar. The students thoroughly enjoyed the demonstration and it was a great learning experience for them. It represented the true Kathakali style in all its grandeur. The club looks forward to more such programmes and activities for the benefit of all members. |

On 24th of December 2009 about sixty alumni members, teachers and support staff, congregated at the school campus for a re- union. Students as early as the 1988 batch revisited their alma mater to connect with their juniors, teachers and support staff of the school.
