‘CHITHIRAM PESUTHADI’ – First ever Mega Painting Competition was conducted by Rotary Club of Madras, Central in association with Abirami Mega Mall to create the World Records – Guinness & Limca on Friday, 29th January 2010 at M.A.Chidambaram Stadium, Chepauk, Chennai. Students from classes IV, V, VI, VII, VIII & IX of our school participated in this competition with great enthusiasm to be crowned as the ‘World Junior Artist’.
INDIAN COAST GUARD INTER-SCHOOL QUIZ COMPETITION
The Indian Coast Guard inter-school quiz competition was organized to celebrate the Raising Day or Coast Guard Day on January 22nd, 2010. The competition was held onboard a coast guard ship at Chennai Port Trust (Harbour). Arjith Retna and K.S.Varun of Std XI participated in the quiz and secured the third place among 40 schools.
SCRABBLE TOURNAMENT
The scrabble tournament started at 9.30 am on 9th January 2010. There were two rounds of scrabble with unscrambling tests in between. There was one more game of scrabble before calling it a day.
On day two, the tournament commenced at 9.00 am with a jumbled words test followed by Spelz, where the students were asked to spell a word. The last round of scrabble game and unscrambling test decided the winner. The last and the most interesting event was the ‘Public Speaking’. The prize distribution was the grand finale.

I WANT TO BE AN EDITOR
THE TIMES OF INDIA in association with Met life & Derek O’ Brian conducted the ‘I WANT TO BE AN EDITOR’ contest for students from std V to std IX. Six students were selected from our school for the Inter-school regional level. RUTUHPARAN of class VI,SIDDARTH RAMESH of class VII, ARUNESHWAR of class VIII, SAMYUKTA, UDITH & ISHAN of class IX represented Bala Vidya Mandir at the regional level on Saturday 5th December at Asan Memorial Senior Secondary School. The first was a written test to select candidates for the next level. There was a Quiz & creative writing event that finally decided the winners. ISHAAN PADMANABHAN was selected as one of the two finalists. ISHAAN will be editing the January 4th 2010 newspaper at Delhi along with Dr.A.P.J.ABDUL KALAM, Saurav Ganguly and Amir Khan.
On 24th of December 2009 about sixty alumni members, teachers and support staff, congregated at the school campus for a re- union. Students as early as the 1988 batch revisited their alma mater to connect with their juniors, teachers and support staff of the school.
