Bala Vidya Mandir enjoys a justifiable reputation among schools in Chennai, for its balanced approach to education.. In this school, Indian tradition and Western liberalism achieve a harmony. Students imbibe not only the knowledge reflected in their studies, but also self-confidence that stands them in good stead in the outside world. A number of co-curricular activities go towards building this self-confidence. From Class VI onwards, our school offers students the opportunity to participate in the following activities. Science Club: The objectives of the Science Club is to awaken the child's perception of the world at large; to nurture a searching and questioning mind, and to inculcate a desire to perserve and conserve the valuable life and resources of nature around it. It was started to create an awareness tha wild life merely did not mean the bid and bold but consisted of small and ugly along with the bright and beautiful flora. Through its various awareness programmes like talks, video shows, visits to factories and nature spots, and Intra and Inter-School competitions, the club brings out latent talents and helps the children appreciate nature in general. Humanities Club: A club with multifaceted dimensions that gives children ample scope to involve themselves in activites designed to improve aptitudes, hone various skills and reinforce ethical and moral values. The club comprises the Commerce Club, the Literary Club, the Dramatics Club and the Karuna Club. The Commerce Club is an offshoot of the Senior Secondary Commerce stream; its activities focus on practical training for the theoretical knowledge, which the commerce students gain in the classroom. They run the school canteen, control its finances and prepare budget, all on the ground-rules of ethical practicalities. Other activities include quiz programmes, speeches by Heads of leading commerical houses on important topical isses and analytical discussions on the commercial and ecomomic areas of interest, and visits to business places like banks, stock-exchange etc. The Literary Club provides students a take-off point to the workd of Literature - English, Tamil, Hindi and Sanskrit. It creates opportunities to enchance their taste in reading, their sense of appreciation of literary expressions and their scope to emulate great literary figures through their works. The members also have opportunities to view outstanding plays and performances in the city. The club also conducts annual Inter-House Dramatics contest as well as a Literary Week involving various activities and presentation. The Dramatics Club is a recent addition to the school's expanding list of activities. Although a co-curricular activity and only four years old, the Dramatics Club is an off-shoot and extended activity of English Development Course(EDC), a curricular main stream subject for classes VI upwards. The club helps students realize their creative and histrionic skills through regular dramatic performances in English, the high-point of which is a full scale biennial public theatre production. The Karuna Club develops in its members a comprehensive outlook of compassion and love for all living beings. It helps a child realize its social importance and encourage a source of invlovement in preventing cruelty an din protecting harmony in the co-existence of man, animal and nature. Cultural Club:The word "Culturals" in the present academic society has varied meanings according to different activities that come under the banner of "Inter school Cultural Festival". It is the aim of this club to provide its members with an insight into the more valued skills in competence and excellence so as to help them shine in society. The club functins in various units, some of them being Music, Bhajans and Sanskrit Slokas which help in inspiring the students in the path of devotion, which is the backbone of our Indian Music and Scriptures. Interact Club: The Interact Club is a sponsored unit of the Rotary Club of Madras which provides guidance and assistance in the realization of the club's objectives; to inspire constructive leadership qualities in its fortunate in our community; to selflessly work in raising funds for worthwhile casues; to encourage initiative towards social service programmes and to devlope good-will towards fellow-beings. |
